Over the summer, Spatial Quotient hosted five students as part of their MScs in Data Science. Hailing from the University of Salford, each performed research and analysis on our unique spatio-temporal dataset, before writing a detailed dissertation on a novel research topic.
As well as formal documentation, Gemma, Loghman, Lakshmi, Jeelan and Ollie each completed 3 presentations, the final to twenty attendees in a mini-digital conference format; a great lesson in remote working to round the engagement off!
Adil Rahman, Chief Data Scientist at SQ, was impressed at the standard. “It is not easy to design and implement an end to end project in data science: not only did the students have to complete domain research, solution design, and finally implementation and testing, but we also worked with them on their narrative, and client facing visualisations. This visibility of the whole end to end process will stand them in good stead moving forward.”
“My internship at SQ provided me with valuable experience, and a much better idea about the applications of data science and AI in healthcare systems improvement. I also valued the friendly, supportive working environment, and the employees commitment to providing excellent service, in both to healthcare clinics and also the wider community. However, the greatest benefit has been the knowledge that I love applying what I have been studying in an industry project!”
“I am grateful to Spatial Quotient for providing the opportunity to work on such an interesting dataset. The data scientists from SQ helped me along the way, during analysis and providing tips for the presentations, which I am incredibly thankful for.”
“The experience with Spatial Quotient was wonderful. I learnt a lot, and had the opportunity to explore a novel data science application. Looking forward, this project will help me to find new opportunities in industry. Finally, I wholeheartedly convey my thanks to the SQ team for their help and support throughout!”
“I am incredibly grateful to Spatial Quotient for the opportunity to complete my Masters project with them. The skills I have developed in my time working with SQ will carry me through my career. I have been lucky to put the things I have learnt in my Masters into practice in such an interesting and exciting concept.”
Helping to set up the partnership between SQ and the University of Salford was Eden Smith, a specialist data consultancy and training company. SQ are grateful for their help, and look forward to working with them in the future.
As for the students, they are already looking towards their next opportunities, and some have even started new roles already. Thanks to them for working incredibly hard with us, and once again, a huge well done from us at SQ! We wish each of them all the best in their results, and in their next career steps.
